We Do Not Care Club Meeting

Hello and welcome to all new and existing members of the Silvis Public Library’s chapter of the We Do Not Care Club (WDNC). This is a club for all women going through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. We, like our founder—influencer Melani Sanders—are putting the world on notice that we simply just do not care much anymore.
Based on Melani’s videos and book, these monthly meetings are a safe space for women to talk, share, listen, and laugh. We may also have the occasional speaker. Refreshments provided. No registration necessary.

Silent Summer Cinema Series: “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”

Step into the past with our Silent Summer Cinema series! In June we’ll watch “The Cabinet of Dr. Calibari” (1920), the creepy and surreal German Expressionist film inspired by the art movement. The artistic expression is mainly in the set pieces. The film recounts the story of the mysterious mesmerist, Dr. Caligari, and his somnambulist, Cesare (the pale complexion and dark circles under his eyes would set the standard look for movie zombies). After their arrival in town, mysterious murders begin to occur and Francis, a local villager, suspects Cesare. When Francis's girlfriend is kidnapped by Cesare, it becomes obvious that Dr. Caligari is programming the somnambulist to carry out his murderous commands.
It’s one of the most influential films of all time, according to Turner Classic Movies. The filmmakers use elements of foreshadowing, irony, suspense, shock, symbolism, and imagery to create an unnatural world where reality becomes a warped excursion through shadows and abstract designs. Movies fans, if you haven’t seen this one yet, you need to! For everyone else, take a chance on a silent movie. The action is driven along with music, so they’ve never actually been silent. Join us!
