Celebrate Black History Month with us as we watch ILP’s live Zoom event featuring James McBride.
Tonight we will be holding a watch party in the library for the ILP’s conversation with author James McBride. Plus, we’ll be having gumbo from a favorite Quad Cities restaurant, Pee Wee’s! Don’t miss this great event!
James is an award-winning author, musician, and screenwriter. His landmark memoir, The Color of Water, has sold millions of copies and spent more than two years on the New York Times bestseller list and is considered an American classic. A noted musician and composer, McBride has toured as a saxophonist sideman with jazz legend Jimmy Scott, among other musicians. In 2015, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Obama “for humanizing the complexities of discussing race in America.” His book The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store has been named a Must Read for the Summer by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Time, AARP, Town & Country, St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Join us at the library for a special storytime with local author Allen McCaulley and therapy dogs from Legacy Therapy Dogs. Allen McCaulley is the author of The Whimsical Life of Max the Dog series with books such as Max Makes Pancakes and Max Sings Take Me Out To The Ballgame. We will also be joined by legacy therapy dogs. The Legacy Therapy Dogs can help students improve literacy skills and provide a non-stressful, non-judgmental environment. Afterall; Dogs Don’t judge, they just listen. Reading with a dog increases self-confidence and encourages a love of reading in specific and learning in general.
