History of the Confederate Prison on Arsenal Island

Monday, November 16th at 6:30 p.m. – Tom Best will be presenting a program about the history of the Confederate Prison at Rock Island on Arsenal Island that once held thousands of Confederate soldiers. The prison camp opened in December 1863. There has been much information over the years as to what this prison, and other northern prisons, were like according to Confederate sources (think of "Gone with the Wind").  He will offer some insights into the history of this site and other Civil War prisons.

In 1968, Jim Blair comes to the tiny western Illinois community of West Fork to teach in its new school. He meets a young woman named Linda Bray who grew up on a local farm and hopes to return after studying veterinary medicine in Michigan.
